1999 - China International quarter-finalist

Biography
Joe Perry recorded the best result of his career in the 1999/2000 season in reaching the last eight of the China Open.

His run in Shanghai could even have continued to the semi-final as Stephen Hendry had to battle hard to beat him 5-4 in the quarter-final. In the preceding rounds, Perry had a hat-trick of wins over Scots as he beat Alan McManus, Chris Small and Graeme Dott.

Perry also reached the overseas stages of the Thailand Masters, beating Peter Ebdon and Brian Morgan, before losing out to eventual winner Mark Williams.

Perry, son of a Heathrow airport taxi driver, had worked his way steadily up the rankings since turning pro in 1994. He shot to fame in 1999 when he defeated Steve Davis 10-9 in the first round of the Embassy World Championship in a deciding frame that went to the last black.

Until superseded by John Higgins in the quarter-finals of the Embassy World Championship 2000, Perry held the record for consecutive points scored in a ranking event. He notched 463 unanswered points in the 1997 world championship qualifiers against Tony Meo. Higgins snatched the record at the Crucible against Anthony Hamilton, scoring 485 without reply.

Last season started well for Perry with an appearance in the last 16 of the British Open, and he reached that stage again in the Welsh Open in January. After failing to reach The Crucible, Perry also lost his first match at the Scottish Open.

Off the table, Perry is a keen fan of Arsenal football club, and in his spare time likes to watch television and keep fit at the gym.
