Biography
Paul Hunter first made his mark as a real tournament threat at the 1998 Regal Welsh. In just one week, he suddenly fulfilled all the hopes and expectations that his talent had indicated, as he beat five top 16 players on his way to the title, culminating in a 9-5 defeat of John Higgins in the final.

Hunter's potential was noticed early in his amateur career, when he won the junior title at Pontins, aged just 14. He went on to become an English international and reached the final of the English Amateur Championship in 1995.

It was in the 1996 Regal Welsh that Hunter had served notice of what was to follow. As a rookie he won a total of 11 matches through the qualifying stages to reach the semi-final of the event.

In the 1998/99 season he reached the semi-final of the UK Championship, but in 1999/2000 failed to reach the latter stages of any event and slipped down two places on the official ranking list.

Last season was been considerably better for Hunter, whose ambition is to win the world championship within the next three years. A more consistent season saw him reach the latter stages of three ranking tournaments as well as winning the lucrative B&H Masters, after an excellent comeback in the final session.

Paul lives in the snooker hotbed of Leeds and has plenty of practice partners in fellow pros Joe Johnson, who has helped to guide the young player through his career, Jimmy Michie, Peter Lines and Jason Prince. When he's not hard at work on the table, Paul enjoys golf and football and other things that the tabloids like to write about.
