Biography
David Gray is one of snooker's rising stars. A former English amateur champion, Gray defeated Matthew Stevens and Dave Harold on the way to winning the 1998 B&H Championship. That win gave him the chance to play at Wembley, where he first saw live snooker as a child.

Gray - also known as Casper! - made his Crucible debut in 1998, when he battled hard against Alan McManus, before losing 10-8. However, in the Millennium championship he won three qualifying matches to make it back to the famous Sheffield venue.

Few people fancied Gray against Ronnie O'Sullivan who had won his second ranking tournament of the season a week before. But despite the Rocket's five centuries in the match, it was a determined Gray who prevailed 10-9.

Gray, who spent some of the pre-season practising with Jimmy White, made an ultra-consistent start to the 2000/01 campaign. He reached the last 32 of every tournament except the Grand Prix after the autumn qualifiers. But the second phase of qualifying in February was not so good for Gray, who missed out on a trip to Thailand and also failed to qualify for the final stages of the world championship. However, his good start to the season ensured a jump up the ranking list and saw him into the top 32 for the first time.
