A 6-2 win over his fellow Scot, Stephen Hendry took him through to his first ranking event final, at the China International. "I was shaking like a leaf", said Snaddon, about his clash with Hendry. He eventually lost to another Scot, John Higgins, but took home a cheque for £21,000 and a major confidence boost. Having turned professional, along with hundreds of others, when the game was thrown open in 1991, Snaddon catapulted to 74th in the rankings after his first season and he steadily consolidated his position with regular last 32 and last 16 appearances, eventually breaking into the top 32 in the 1997 season, after three seasons stuck in the 30s. The highlight of the 1999/2000 season again came overseas, with a quarter final appearance in the Thailand Masters, overcoming John Higgins along the way. Last season, Snaddon's top 16 ambitions took a knock, as he failed to advance beyond the last 32 of a ranking event. He reached The Crucible for the fifth time desperate to win a match there. But unfortunately for Billy, he was drawn against defending champion Mark Williams, and once again had to leave Sheffield early. |
